Do we need a home alarm more now than 25 years ago?

by Rick Overholt on May 8, 2013

Were we safer in Houston, Tx in 1985 than we were in 2010?

While there has been significant decreases in rapes (-58%), murders (-41%) and Burglary (-32%), Robberies are just as prevalent now as they were then.   Another point is, that there are more home alarms than there were 1985, and in the alarm industry we believe that home alarm systems and security cameras are two of the reasons that there are less break ins now than then.

Simply ask yourself, if you were a burglar, would you be more inclined to break into a home without a monitored security system than you would a home with a system?

Personally, I also think our amazing Houston Police Department and Harris County Sheriff’s Department are doing a great  job with their presence and involvement in reducing and preventing crimes as well.

If you like statistics like I do, check out this nice tool on the FBI website to view crime report stats by year and city all across the United States:

Lets see what the FBI Uniform Crime Report says:

Houston Crime comparison, 1985-2010:
