Private response for security systems

Should you consider private response for your alarm system? The answer is: it depends. Here are a few reasons why you might want to consider it:

Use of building. If your building is a school or church, or has more than a dozen people who can arm and disarm it, then you should definitely consider private response. It’s been by experience that schools and churches, with many teachers and members having access codes, are two of the biggest producers of user caused false alarms. Sometimes it’s because someone enters through a door thats not near a keypad, and forget the system is armed. Often it’s simply because so many people have codes, but have never been fully educated on how to use the system.

The next most common offender are commercial buildings with multiple overhead doors. These doors take a beating with forklifts, and often become loose fitting and unstable, or the contacts are damaged. Large industrial and manufacturing facilities should consider private response, to avoid building up large false alarm fines and tying up valuable police resources.

Alarm users under contract may find that rates are very affordable, ranging from a low of $25 to a high of $50 per response. Often a small subscription fee of a few dollars per month will get you the best rate per response.

Be sure to keep your permit updated if you don’t have private response, to take advantage of any free responses your agency may offer.
